Small Castle Dream is a small watercolor depicting an imaginary castle from my dreams.

This piece is part of my collection. Originals will soon be available to buy online — write to me in the meantime.
The subject
No particular castle, no map reference — just the castle everyone carries in their head: towers, turrets, a path winding up to the gate. A small, quick sketch of an archetype.
Every childhood has one of these: the fairy-tale castle, half-remembered from stories and from a dozen real ones blurred together. I didn’t want to draw a specific place; I wanted the idea — the thing the word ’castle’ conjures before you picture any particular stone.
So the towers are a little impossible, the path a little too steep, the sky a dreaming blue.
It belongs to my ’Medieval Echoes’ sheets — the Middle Ages as feeling rather than fact.
Not a castle you can visit — the one you already remember without ever having been.
Ink for the towers and the climbing path, soft washes of blue and grey and green for the dream around them.
Small and quick on purpose: a daydream, caught before it faded.
