Windsor Castle under a clear sky — the Round Tower on its motte and the long line of walls and towers rising above the park.

This piece is part of my collection. Originals will soon be available to buy online — write to me in the meantime.
The subject
The same great castle at Windsor, but now under open sky — a bright, easy day along the battlements, the sunny counterpart to its stormier companion.
Windsor has been home to the English crown for more than nine centuries, the largest and oldest occupied castle on earth, rising above the Thames and the little town at its gates. From the Long Walk the Round Tower floats over the trees.
Here I wanted none of the drama of weather — just the pleasure of the place on a clear day, the stone warm and the flags out.
The colour opens up: a bright sky, light on the towers, green below.
Its stormy twin holds its breath; this one simply enjoys the weather.
Ink for the towers and battlements, bright open washes for the sky and the sunlit stone.
Together the two Windsors are a small study in mood — the same castle, two different afternoons.
